International Woman's Day 2014

Since 1975, members of the global community recognized March 8th as International Woman's Day (IMW). The international holiday celebrates the progress towards empowering women around the world.

Although there has been some progress, more than 220 women in developing countries still have an unmet need for family planning (FP) (Singh and Darroch 2012). FP enables women and men to determine whether, when, and how many children. This ability is vital to ensure safe motherhood and healthy families. In addition, voluntary family planning has profound health, economic, and social benefits for women, their families, and their communities.
