Environmental control measures

Environmental control measures are the second line of defense for preventing the spread of TB in health care settings. Environmental controls include ventilation (natural and mechanical), filtration, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation, and other methods of air cleaning. It is important to recognize that if administrative controls (policies and work practices) are inadequate, environmental controls may not eliminate all the risk. Some environmental control measures are simple and inexpensive while many others are technically complex and expensive.
