CapacityPlus, USAID’s flagship project on the global health workforce led by IntraHealth International, is pleased to announce the release of the Gender and Health Systems Strengthening course hosted on the USAID Global Health eLearning Center.
Learners who take this course will learn about the gender issues that exist within the major health systems components, key interventions that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment, and how to address these gender issues in health systems strengthening activities in order to improve health systems’ outcomes.
Women and men have different opportunities and constraints, needs, power, and access to the resources affecting their health. Promoting gender equality in the six components of the health system means assuring fairness and justice in the distribution of benefits, power and resources between women and men, girls and boys.
Achieving better health and gender outcomes requires a coordinated and integrated response that recognizes the interdependence of each component of the health system. Health leaders must forge multiple, dynamic interactions between systems components and monitor progress to improve health systems and social outcomes. This course highlights gender issues to consider and ways to promote equality for building stronger health systems.
